Finnish library architecture is characterized by openness, transparency and accessibility - some of the key components of the Finnish library services.
The recently opened website Buildings.libraries.fi presents over 20 examples of Finnish library design from the recent years - and even some more mature buildings. The libraries introduced represent both university and public libraries of different sizes from across the country.
The one thing all Finnish libraries have in common is that they are open to everybody: anyone can borrow from the collections, browse the databases, take part in the discussions, cultural events and all kinds of classes offered on the library premises. All libraries also provide public computers, and many have meeting facilities available for library users.
Get acquainted with the 22 specimen at Buildings.libraries.fi. For more information on the Finnish library system and the individual libraries visit Libraries.fi.
